Glasshammer Design was established in 1995 by artist and designer Michelle O' Donnell. The company specialises in the creation and manufacture of architectural glass art for both the domestic and commercial markets. A native of Donegal, Michelle trained in the Art College in Limerick and has a degree from the University of Ulster in Belfast. She quickly built her reputation as an original and innovative glass designer, producing one off corporate art for clients of Irish-based crystal companies in New York, Dallas, Boston, Belgium, and Paris. Her work covers a broad spectrum from internal architectural commissions to large public state bodies and is highly regarded both at home and abroad.
Cush’n Shade is a portable, foldable, device that combines a cushion and a sunshade that provides neck support and protects the face from the direct rays of the sun while the rest of the body tans. The idea for the product occurred to Joan Bree in 2002 while the then pub designer was sunning herself in Sardinia. The process from creative thought to the first unit coming off the production line took four long years of hard work. Throughout the process Joan received support from the Dublin City Enterprise Board, who provided the services of Mentor Daire Coffey and Feasability, Employment, Commercial Website and Export grants to a total of €37,500.
