Today saw the launch of a new Autumn/Winter Vintage Inspired product range by County Carlow company Amhain Creations.  The company established in 2009 by Valerie Coleman, a native of Thurles, Co. Tipperary,  has grown from a cottage industry with a small variety of quality hand knitted products to a complete range now developed by Coleman and her collaborator, Teresa Keogh (, displaying at events ranging from Christmas Gift Fairs to National Ploughing Championships.

AmhainCreationsThe range features fabric Hats and Bags inspired by fashions from the 1920’s to 1960’s which are complemented by knitted Shrugs, Hats and Scarves and are aimed towards women of all ages who like to express their individuality through unique vintage styling. Speaking about the range Coleman said “Most of our materials are treasures that we have hunted out in houses and auctions, some are 50 years old. Our designs grow from what we think is the best use of the materials, giving new life to these materials but maintaining their nostalgic appeal".

Speaking about Amhain Creations, “my passion to establish the business was driven by my love of using vintage materials and my love of design. Since the inception of the business I have developed my bespoke range and draw my inspiration particularly from iconic vintage fashions. We aim to have our products stocked in outlets whose ranges complement our design ethos, and to grow from a National to International Business during 2014”.

Speaking about the International element of the business Coleman attributes her activities in this area to using social media. “We are very active on the social space and have built a significant network of customers. Social Media provides an ultimate platform to grow our business while also getting instant feedback from our clients on what products they would like to see us develop next”.

Amhain Creations has also created a range of unique home accessories. Evolving during a recent Ireland / Wales Innovation Programme facilitated by IT Carlow, the range will be available as ”Other Mammy’s Kitchen “. This range is ahead of the curve - drawing inspiration from traditional kitchens but with pieces designed to suit how we live now.

Speaking about her hopes for the future Coleman commented “In the long term we have plans to employ more crafts people, people like us who love to create vintage style from vintage materials. We will be expanding our ranges but still maintaining that uniqueness that defines the brand. We also intend to bring our range to an International Market”.
