ClareAn event aimed at assisting new and existing businesses in expanding their operations takes place in Kilrush on Wednesday 25th May 2011. Organised by members of the West Clare Task Force, the ‘West Clare Enterprise Evening’ will showcase the wide range of supports to local enterprises. Participating agencies include Clare County Council, Kilrush and Kilkee Town Councils, Shannon Development, Leader, FAS, Enterprise Ireland, County Enterprise Board, VEC, Loop Head Tourism, and Kilrush and Kilkee Chambers of Commerce.

Councillor PJ Kelly, Chairperson of the West Clare Economic Development Task Force said: “The ‘West Clare Enterprise Evening’ will combine the expertise of all participating agencies and provide a One Stop Shop in Kilrush where potential entrepreneurs will be able to source all relevant information regarding setting up a business in the West Clare area.”

“Considering the downturn in the Irish economy it is important that local and regional development agencies assist and facilitate, to the greatest possible extent, any enterprise that is striving to contribute to the local economy.  This information evening will showcase the wide range of facilities and supports that are available to anyone starting and more importantly expanding a business”, he added.

“The event is a good example of local agencies walking the walk instead of talking the talk. Direct action is required if local businesses are to overcome the present difficult operating environment”, Mr. Kelly concluded.

Commenting on the upcoming event, Mayor of Clare Cllr. Christy Curtin said: “The future competitiveness of County Clare depends on the entrepreneurial skills of local SMEs. It is incumbent on the relevant agencies in the county and wider region to develop a collaborative approach to creating a supporting environment for these companies.   I would encourage new and existing businesses in the West Clare area to attend the event.”

Financial Institutions are also being invited with a view to informing people of the business packages that are available for new or expanding businesses.

According to Nora Kaye, Kilrush Town Manager and Director of Services: “Clare County Council is committed to engaging with local business and communities on enterprise development . The objectives of this event include assisting people to set up businesses and to generate employment, revitalising town centre areas and general physical enhancement in towns, and fostering a sense of confidence in the local economy. The event will also promote the positive aspects of doing business in the West, having regard to the huge development and employment potential of Shannon Estuary, opportunities in relation to renewable energy, and branding Kilrush as a quality shopping town.”

The ‘West Clare Enterprise Evening’ takes place at Kilrush Golf Club on Wednesday 25th May from 7pm.
